Chrome is no longer the world's fastest web browser

Although Google Chrome is the browser used by the majority of users around the world, partly because of its great speed and efficiency, the truth is that it has just lost out in a benchmark. Another browser has moved ahead of them and, as you can imagine, the news has been received at the browser's offices with great celebration.

No, the browser that has surpassed Chrome is not unknown. This is Firefox, which could be said to have been one of its great rivals for longer than you can imagine. With this victory, Mozilla developers celebrate the moment, but know that there is still a lot of work to do.

At last a victory

The benchmark in which Google Chrome has been imposed on speed has been the SunSpider JavaScript. To reach this conclusion, the Firefox team, which did not hesitate to issue a statement in which it was made aware of the news, used the benchmarking website AreWeFastYet.com.

What can be seen is that over a long period of days Firefox manages to stay above the results of Chrome. This is something that has never happened before and helps demonstrate the work Mozilla is doing to try to take market share away from Google's tool.

But there's a little trick

It's possible that the Firefox developers were a bit desperate for a win, as it's a bit strange that they used the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark. The reason for this is that this benchmark is already ten years old and a later version is even available, which is usually the one used to replace it. Therefore, one would have to ask if the test has as much credibility as they are trying to demonstrate. If we talk about the benchmark that succeeds SunSpider, known as JetStream 2, what we find is that the tortill is turned around. Thus, the results obtained by Chrome are much faster than those of Firefox.

Therefore, as can be seen in the screenshots corresponding to the benchmark result, one would have to consider whether the news should be celebrated as loudly as they have.

They say from Mozilla that the improvement in Firefox performance has occurred due to the latest updates that they are implementing. For example, they have made changes to the HTTP/2 payload that have greatly benefited them. They are also making other updates with the intention of making the user experience more fluid. In this way, another of its recent novelties is the availability of a menu that provides a lot of information about the recent history, as well as the tabs that are open.

With all these changes and a desire to improve that cannot be said that it is not high, the Firefox development team is trying to maintain the hope of eventually limiting Chrome's leadership a bit. They know that it is not easy and that it is being a long-distance race that is difficult to win, but they also have something important in mind. Thus, right now what could lead to users stealing from Chrome would be that your browser really confirms that it works better, that it is faster, more stable and that it has more options. But, above all, what is imposed is the speed of use.

Unfortunately for them, they have only had a small victory in one benchmark and it still seems that they are far from achieving their goals. In any case, it is true that, today, there is no better rival that can stand up to Chrome. Time will tell if Firefox ends up becoming the tool that will shake Google's dominance.
