They announce a new format of optical discs that will have 1 Terabyte capacity and will cost $5 dollars

Some of you are too young to remember, but a long time ago, there were some boxes on top of computers, where you could use round objects with a hole in the middle, called disks, which contained information of all kinds.

Well, ok, it's not too old to count it that way, but thinking about how digital storage technology has advanced over the years, many would think that there are no more advances in the development of physical disks.

Something in which many of us are totally wrong, since there are still companies that are dedicated to finding new ways to increase the capacity of this type of storage, such as Folio Photonics, who have announced their new format called ACTIVE, which will revolutionize the sector.

Disk format that will bring to the market, capacities of up to 1 TB, sold in boxes that will bring 10 units each, which will also be much cheaper than expected. As reported on the site El Chapuzas Informático, in addition to having much more capacity than Blu-Ray, ACTIVE discs will cost $5 per TB, and they are seeking to achieve a price of approximately $1 per TB.

Something that will be possible since the ACTIVE will have up to 16 layers of film per side, compared to current discs that use three layers at most. In addition, it is ensured that they will have a useful life of 100 years, being resistant to heat, cold, humidity and EMP attacks.

However, it is a long time before they can be purchased, since ACTIVE discs are expected to hit the market in 2024.
