Congress approved by insistence raising the minimum Internet speed to 70%

Currently, the legislation establishes that operators provide up to 40% of the speed that a person hires. The new rule will apply to postpaid, prepaid and other plans.

With 111 votes in favor, 0 against and 1 abstention, the Plenary of Congress approved by the insistence the opinion that raises the minimum speed of Internet services in urban and rural areas from 40% to 70%.

"Internet service providers must guarantee 70% of the minimum speed offered in contracts with consumers or users, and established in their plans (postpaid, prepaid and others) advertised in the different media, " says the autograph.

The law establishes that Osiptel must issue, within a maximum period of 60 days, the regulations of a regulatory nature that are necessary to guarantee compliance with the provisions of this Law, that is, that they apply to guarantee the minimum 70%.

This initiative had already been rejected by the Executive Power with 13 observations, including the lack of structure of the norm.

Recall that the Association for the Promotion of National Infrastructure (AFIN) warned that this legislative proposal puts at risk internet access to almost 5 million people who to date do not have access.

The union recalls that there are barriers to the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure that has not been solved.
