Microsoft hasn't forgotten Windows 10 users and is releasing an update with several improvements. Among them is the definitive solution to an issue that users were experiencing and that the community felt was important to address as soon as possible.
Users running Windows 10 versions 21H2 or 22H2 will be pleased to know that a new update is now available. It comes with build number KB5053606 and focuses primarily on fixing bugs and performance issues. It's also not an optional update, but a mandatory one, so you may already have it applied or waiting in the queue to install it. What benefits will it provide you?
Improvements and fixes in this update
To begin with, like all other mandatory Windows updates, version KB5053606 addresses several security issues. These are six zero-day vulnerabilities that were being actively exploited, so it was urgent to patch them as soon as possible. All of this is included in Microsoft's March security patch, which has been applied to its various systems and will prevent your computer from encountering various difficulties.
Regarding the issue that Microsoft has fixed, which has been dragging on for quite some time, it is the one that caused the OpenSSH (Open Secure Shell) service to fail to open. Until now, the solution Microsoft provided consisted of manually using the sshd.exe file to access the registry. However, it has finally been resolved and is now on the list of resolved issues in this classic version of Windows.
Several issues with the Narrator feature have also been fixed, as well as other bugs primarily related to the use of the Chinese language. A more important issue that has also been fixed is the bug that caused the Desktop Windows Manager process to hang at times for no apparent reason. Additionally, several other bugs have been eliminated, but which were being experienced in isolated or regional cases in some parts of the world.
There are still problems
As usual, Microsoft isn't ignoring the issues that are still pending resolution and are expected to be resolved in the near future. They note that, for example, users with Citrix Session Recording Agent version 2411 may experience issues with Windows updates, while Windows EventViewer sometimes displays the Event 7023 error. In the latter case, we simply have to ignore it, since the error message itself has no effect and no further repercussions. This error simply refers to an element that was deleted and is no longer in the system. However, it will soon be fixed so that the message no longer appears. We've mentioned the solution for Citrix on previous occasions, and it's something that's fairly under control, although a final patch is also expected.
We previously indicated that this update is mandatory, so all Windows 10 users have likely already received it. However, occasionally there is an error and it may not have been applied automatically. To check, go to Settings, Windows Update, and then click Check for updates. If your system is already updated, the version you'll be using will be KB5053606, as mentioned above. If you have Windows 10 21H2, the system build you'll end up with will be 19044.5608, while with Windows 10 22H2, you'll get 19045.5608.
Although Windows 10 updates are still on the way, keep in mind that Microsoft's operating system will end official support in 2025, and that, after that point, these types of patches will no longer be released. Therefore, bugs that are still pending resolution at the end of basic support will only be available to those who pay for extended support. The alternative is to pay for it or upgrade to Windows 11.
