Here's what Microsoft wants you to do if your PC isn't working properly with Windows 11

Microsoft has been launching a strong campaign throughout the year to get its users to migrate to Windows 11 as soon as possible. However, there is still a high percentage that is on the Windows 10 version, either because they do not want to upgrade their computers or because they do not meet the necessary requirements to do so. Although Windows 11 can still be installed on unsupported hardware, the company recommends reversing the situation to avoid having to deal with future compatibility problems.

Now that we are in the final stretch of the year and there are only a few months left until Windows 10 support ends, Microsoft has been warning in recent weeks about the imminent change that must be made to make the jump to its recent Windows 11 operating system. But its request is not having much effect, as there is still a high share of consumers, and more specifically above average, who prefer to stay as they are and not move to the new version.

But even though many incompatible devices can be upgraded to Windows 11, the truth is that this can lead to various technical problems in the long run, as they would not receive any type of updates or security patches from the technology giant. And for the moment, the minimum requirements to carry out the migration to Windows 11 remain unchanged.

What happens if I install Windows 11 on an unsupported PC?

There are fewer days left until Windows 10 stops being profitable on many computers and the entire community that resists this system has no other option than to upgrade to Windows 11. It seems that this is the last verdict that Microsoft has given to all those users who do not intend to change. Although the possibility of continuing to receive security updates in Windows 10 has been enabled through a paid subscription once support ends in October 2025, it will only be for about two or three more years. As reflected on its website, "Microsoft will stop offering free security updates from Windows Update, technical assistance and corrections for Windows 10".

Of course, your PC will not stop working at any time, but the manufacturer recommends that you switch to Windows 11 to guarantee your privacy and keep your information safe. Of course, not everyone is willing to make this change, since there are a large number of computers that are not compatible and that would mean spending a large amount of money to buy a new PC.

Given these commercial intentions of Microsoft, it is not surprising that many want to install Windows 11 on their respective devices by any means. But what happens if my computer does not comply with the standards? In this case, the performance of your PC could be significantly reduced due to compatibility issues and the hardware is not guaranteed to receive Windows 11 updates, including security updates.

Microsoft's solution: roll back to Windows 10

If you have installed Windows 11 on an unsupported computer, you may receive the following informational message:

“This PC does not meet the minimum system requirements to run Windows 11. These requirements help ensure a higher quality and more reliable experience. Installing Windows 11 on this PC is not recommended and may result in compatibility issues. If you continue with the installation of Windows 11, your PC will no longer be supported and will not be able to receive updates. Damage to your PC due to lack of compatibility is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. By selecting Accept, you acknowledge that you have read and understand this statement.”

In the event that you are experiencing any errors or failures in the new system, Microsoft recommends returning to Windows 10. For now, the company has not given any further explanations in this regard and its decision will remain firm for the next year, unless any last-minute changes arise. In this way, there will be no choice but to pay for a new computer with Windows 11 as standard to enjoy all its functions.
