Several of these pages were blocked as part of the international anti-piracy initiative 'Operation 404', carried out in Brazil with the participation of Indecopi.
The Indecopi Copyright Commission has ordered the blocking of 400 websites in Peru that illegally exploit protected content such as films, series, music and television broadcasts of sporting events, in violation of copyright law.
For, the Commission of Resolution No. 0527-2024/CDA-INDECOPI, in which it ordered a precautionary measure so that companies providing internet access service in Peru, such as Movistar, Claro, Entel, Bitel, Win, Americatel, GTD and Nubyx, execute the aforementioned blockage.
Along these lines, they pointed out that in this set of websites there are 25 domains related to three mobile applications that provide illegal stream-ripping services, whose blocking was coordinated as part of the seventh phase of the international anti-piracy initiative called 'Operation 404'.
The operation was carried out today in Brazil, with the participation of the Director of Copyright of Indecopi, Fausto Vienrich, as well as intellectual property agencies and authorities from Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and the United Kingdom.
Blocked sites
The blocked sites were dedicated to streaming and illegal downloading of protected content, and in some cases facilitated access to other pages to carry out these activities. Likewise, sites were detected that offered stream-ripping services, allowing the permanent download of content from legal platforms.
With these measures, Indecopi seeks to discourage these practices that violate copyright and thus encourage investment and preserve sources of employment in the creative industries.
