Windows 11 will have a new system to share files from the start menu and the taskbar

Microsoft continues to implement new features in Windows 11 with the intention of shaping what, according to them, should be the perfect operating system. This time they have thought of expanding the presence of the Share button, which is going to be seen much more than you might imagine. As we are going to explain to you, it is going to be around us everywhere.

Perhaps the Windows team has grown tired of hearing how easy it is to share files and items between Mac computers and Apple devices. This may be why they have started developing this feature we are talking about. For now, it is available in beta version, but it is possible that it will eventually be extended to the standard version of the operating system.

How to use this button?

The information about this new feature has been published by the user PhantomOfEarth on X, who has already been responsible in other cases for discovering hidden new features in the latest Windows 11 betas. What he is talking about is the massive presence of this Share button that Microsoft wants to have a notable presence throughout the operating system interface. To begin with, we will find it in the Start menu, which in the past had been characterized by simplicity, but which is now increasingly loaded with elements and content.

As you can see in the screenshot taken by Bleeping Computer, when you right-click on a file, the usual drop-down menu appears with a new option: Share. When you click, the Share menu will appear, which you may already be familiar with. This gives you the option, first, to share on the mobile phone you have linked to your computer. And, second, to share via other applications. In addition, you can also share using email, which, today, ends up being the most convenient option (because sharing with Paint doesn't seem very practical, all things considered).

In addition to being present in the Start menu, its presence has also been located in the Taskbar. The objective is the same and its operation is not far from what was mentioned above. Here, the only thing you will have to do is right-click on one of the icons that you have in the taskbar and you will see that, at the top, the “Share this item” button appears. Once you click, the Share menu will appear again and you will be able to choose how exactly you want to send it.

Is this a necessary change?

All things considered, it's not a bad addition, because these kinds of things are always good for speeding up file transfer or sending processes. But it may come a little too late and with a major problem regarding the usability of Macs as we mentioned before. With Windows 11 you can share on Android devices, but not in as efficient and solid a way as we would like. The connectivity between Windows and Android still has a lot of room for improvement and perhaps Microsoft should concentrate on better visualizing this system so that users are happier. For example, full connectivity doesn't even work well with all Android phones, only with models from major brands.

At the same time, it feels like the user experience and, above all, the interface are becoming more complicated. Microsoft keeps putting things where there was nothing before and continues to make it difficult to open its menus immediately. Many users were not even aware of the Share system and the company is already sneaking it into places where it is likely to be used little or not at all. Because of this, it is not a new feature that is being very well received. But, as we mentioned before, for now it is only available in the Preview version, so you don't have to worry about it.
