It's not a miracle: this way you can bring Internet to the entire house without a WiFi repeater

Problems with Internet at home? If you are one of those who have tried WiFi repeaters, a PLC or even putting more than one router at home, but the connection still does not reach all corners, then this solution may help you. And with a small device you can create an Ethernet network so that the connection reaches any corner of your home.

You may have never thought about it, but the truth is that there is a solution that can come in handy when WiFi coverage does not reach everywhere. And all thanks to the fact that you can bring the Internet connection through the TV coaxial cable that you have in your home.

It is clear that the connection via WiFi is faster and easier to configure, but it does not always reach everywhere and repeaters are not of much help when the signal is weak. On this occasion, you should only use a coaxial cable adapter with Ethernet so you can forget about all your problems with the Internet. We already know that the usual thing is to use a WiFi repeater, but this solution may be even better in some cases.

So that we know what we are talking about, coaxial is what cable operators such as Vodafone (inherited from ONO) or the northern cable companies use. This cable makes the deployment of new generation networks cheaper by not having to carry the fiber to the home, but it does so at the cost of losing some benefits. For that reason, it is no longer used for mass deployments, but it can be a great option for the interior of a home.

Use the classic port for the TV antenna

Coaxial extenders take advantage of the coaxial cables in the house to bring Internet to the different corners of the home where a good network connection is needed. It must be taken into account that, especially in more modern constructions, houses have an installation to carry the TV signal from the antenna to different rooms of the house, since they use coaxial cables.

Well, the main objective of these devices is to create a local network using this home wiring without resorting to the WiFi connection or other devices such as PLCs. Among the options you can find are the following alternatives, although there are many more:

The idea is to take advantage of the TV connections at home, this way you will avoid running an Ethernet cable through your home if you want to expand the wired network. An advantage that not all users with connection problems take into account. However, there are a series of drawbacks that must be considered when using this alternative to PLC or Wi-Fi repeaters. But, first, these are the points in its favor:

  • Easy installation.

  • Bring Internet to the entire home without pulling an Ethernet cable or using WiFi.

  • The latest models can provide data transmission speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps.

The points against

Despite the advantages that these extenders can offer, such as providing Internet in those areas where WiFi does not reach, the truth is that there are a series of drawbacks that must be considered at all times.

One of them is that not all homes are prepared to use this type of device. And all due to the fact that, for this type of device to work well, the wiring must be direct. This will depend on whether amplifiers, signal splitters, etc. have been used to carry the TV signal to other points in the home.

In addition to this, two devices are also needed. One that is connected to the router and another that we are going to connect to the coaxial port in the room. Lastly , the price is not the lowest. It is even superior to a PLC.

An alternative would be plastic fiber optics, although as with network cable, it requires wiring the house to take the connection to where we want. This is an option that, like PLCs do with the electrical grid, takes advantage of something that we already have at home to function. Even so, using the installation we have at home will always be something to value, especially for less experienced users.

In short, we must evaluate the use of WiFi repeaters, PLC over the electrical network, network cable, plastic fiber optic cable or coaxial cable depending on our needs and the configuration of the home.
