Windows users have already expressed their opinions about whether or not they should upgrade to Windows 11, and everything seems to indicate that a large part prefers to stay on the previous version. After Microsoft announced in May all the new features that will be included in all its devices, including tablets and computers, over the next few months, its community is not willing to be part of this new generation in which AI is the protagonist. What factor prevents it?
Microsoft has been constantly issuing warnings to its users over the past few months to update to the new version of its operating system, Windows 11, continually displaying advertising via email and even implementing pop-up windows in the interface itself to make them aware that support for Windows 10 will soon be discontinued, especially in terms of security patches.
And after the batch of updates and improvements that the new Copilot+ PCs will soon include during the Microsoft Build 2024 event, the North American company has not managed to convince its public, who are currently reluctant to take the step to migrate all their information.
The main stumbling block: Microsoft's AI
It cannot be said that those in Redmond have found the key to keeping their users happy. Nor can it be said that their current interface, Windows 11, is delighting anyone who has tried it. The truth is that recent updates are not being very productive and many people are encountering problems that cause real headaches, such as blue screens, errors in the use of tools and other failures that hinder the experience.
But one of the causes that has caused deep discomfort is the imminent launch of Windows Recall, a smart feature that will collect all your data to pull from archives using a basic common language. To do this, its function is to capture images of all the applications that you open and close. That is, if you want to search for a specific document or something you saw a long time ago, Recall will recover it in just a few seconds.
This initiative has become one of the main reasons for disdain towards the transfer to Windows 11, so much so that the negativity of users becomes a difficult obstacle to overcome.
Why not upgrade to Windows 11?
The Reddit portal has been ablaze with various opinions, among which a majority agrees that Windows Recall is the main reason why they would not upgrade to Windows 11. Despite the fact that, for the moment, this tool will only be available for computers that have Copilot+ technology integrated and that, supposedly, it can be disabled from the system, users are convinced that it is not a good idea to add its functions. The answer lies in the intrusion into personal data, thus compromising everyone's privacy.
However, it's still too early to decide whether Recall could be detrimental to our experience or not, since Microsoft could get into quite a mess if it breaks the data protection law. For now, it'll be up to insiders to report their feelings after the beta phase arrives next December.
