When the WiFi connection doesn't reach every corner of the house, the best thing to do is to resort to specific devices such as repeaters. However, there is a small piece of equipment that you probably have around the house that you no longer use. This way you will avoid having to spend money on another device. This way you will have the opportunity to bring the connection to other areas of the home where the network does not reach well.
You probably have an old smartphone at home. If so, forget about buying a Wi-Fi repeater, PLC devices, etc. With a mobile phone you have everything you need to improve the WiFi network and expand the coverage of the wireless connection in those areas of your home where it is not so good.
Use your cell phone as a repeater
You may have never thought about it and have always thought about a series of devices to expand the WiFi of your router. However, these small devices are all you need, especially at certain times when you want to have a good connection in other parts of the house.
Basically, what it does is receive the WiFi signal and transmit it to other devices. So it can act as another repeater without any problems. However, you have to keep in mind that it may not have as much capacity and you may be somewhat limited when using the connection. But that doesn't mean that you can use it at certain times. So it becomes one of the great options you have at your disposal. And not only by Wi-Fi, you can also connect it by Ethernet cable and it can offer a more stable connection. You just need to have a USB to Ethernet adapter.
For the latter you will need to have an installation already done previously, especially if you want to take the connection to other areas further away from your house. If this is not the case in your case, then you will have to resort to the wireless network so that the mobile phone can be another repeater. In that case, you must take into account both the distance and the capacity of the smartphone; depending on these factors, the coverage will be expanded better or worse.
Let it be an Android smartphone and not an iPhone
Your thing is to use an Android mobile. Why not an iPhone? More than anything because Android phones can share WiFi, while Apple phones need a SIM to share mobile data. For this reason, it is key to have a smartphone with the Google operating system.
Now comes the moment of truth, the process of configuring the WiFi network to share it with the rest of the devices you have at home. To do this, you must take into account the following:
-
Access point name: This is the name given to the WiFi connection that is shared from the smartphone.
-
Password: Set a strong password so that no user can access the access point.
-
Security: In this case, you must choose the WPA2/WPA3-Personal option. They are the most advanced security protocols. This way you ensure that the rest of the equipment can connect.
Activate the mobile Wi-Fi hotspot
Once the Wi-Fi Zone of the Android smartphone has been correctly configured, it is the turn to activate it correctly to share the connection with the rest of the devices in the home (the steps may vary depending on the customization layer of the device phone):
-
Go to Settings.
-
Enter Networks and Internet.
-
Tap on My Wi-Fi hotspot and Tethering.
-
Click on Wi-Fi Zone.
-
Activate the Use Wi-Fi Hotspot tab.
